| | Alpha fetoprotein( AFP) is a normal component of the fetal blood, produced by the
embryo¡ ¯ s liver cell. In adults, it¡ ¯ s concentration is very low in the blood. AFP is an
important index for clinical diagnosis of primary hepatocellular cancer( PHC) . Over 70%
PHC patients have elevated AFP blood concentrations in early stage. AFP levels also
increase in some other malignant tumors, such as testicular cancer. The test for serum
AFP can be a screening test in high incidence areas and clinically diagnostic test for the
liver cancer in the early stage. It can be used to evaluate the treating effects of liver cancer
and judge the prognosis. Our rapid test Strip is for semi quantitative detection of AFP
using sandwich method and needs no other devices. The test is easy, rapid, and accurate,
with sensitivity of 20ng/ ml.
TEST PRINCIPLE
The AFP Rapid Test Strip is a semi quantitative membrane based immunoassay for the
detection of AFP in whole blood, serum or plasma. The membrane is pre-coated with
anti-AFP antibodies on the test region( T) and goat anti mouse IgG antibody on the control
region( C) . During testing, AFP in the specimen reacts with the colloidal gold-anti-AFP
antibody conjugate. The mixture migrates upward on the membrane through capillary
action to react with anti-AFP antibodies coated on the membrane and a purple line will
appear in test region( T) . The presence of this purple line in the test region indicates a
positive result, while its absence indicates a negative result. No matter whether AFP
exists in the specimen or not, a purple line will appear in the control region( C) . It is a
procedural control, also the internal control for the reagent.

EQUIPMENT REQUIRED BUT NOT PROVIDED
Clock or timer.
SPECIMEN COLLECTION
Serum and plasma specimen is obtained by venous blood collection and centrifugation.
The specimen can be kept for 7 days at 2¡ æ --8¡ æ . It is recommended that specimens be
processed as soon as possible after collection. For long term storage, the specimen shall
be stored at -20¡ æ . Do not freeze and thaw repeatedly.
